The shape is that of a stylised tambourine, to recall that Melpignano - at the end of August - hosts the concert of "La Notte della Taranta" in the imposing square in front of the former church and convent of the Augustinians (an architectural masterpiece designed by the Lecce architect Giuseppe Zimbalo): the largest festival in Italy and one of the most significant events on popular culture in Europe. The medal depicts one of the most beautiful squares in Salento and the whole of Southern Italy, Piazza San Giorgio in Melpignano, famous for its porticoes and for having hosted, since the mid-16th century, one of the most important markets in the South. The square is dominated by the Mother Church of San Giorgio, the adjacent Chapel of the Assumption and the Bell Tower. Masterpieces that at sunset are colored and set alight, with the Lecce stone that gives the facade of the square an almost surreal atmosphere. In the square, some dancers dance to the rhythm of ancestral music, marking the pace and energy of the marathon runners. This is our medal, a small great masterpiece created by our friends and great professionals at Crea Medaglie. Now it's up to you to come and conquer it on November 16, whatever your distance: marathon, half marathon and 12 kilometers. On your chest it will have the knowledge of your feat and personal triumph.
